瑪莉的背包不見了，我們需要幫瑪麗找到背包，
Mary’s backpack is missing. We need to help her to find that back.
但是首先我們要先知道瑪莉的背包長什麼樣子？是什麼時候不見的？
But first, we haveto know what does the backpack look like? When was it lost?
為了知道這些資訊，我們要用「是…的」focus construction來回答。
To know this info, we will answer the question with focus construction.
第一個問題：背包是什麼顏色的？
1. What’s the color of the backpack?
這時候我們可以回答，背包是藍色的。背包是藍色的。
We can say the backpack is blue
下一個問題，背包是誰的？
Next, who owns the backpack
背包是瑪莉的。
We can say Mary owns the backpack.
最後一個很重要的問題，背包是什麼時候不見的？
Last but not least, when was it lost?
這時候我們可以回答，背包是昨天不見的。
We can say (Mary) lost it yesterday.
「是…的」， focus construction，我們用來強調過去發生的事，
focus construction is used to focus on the past event.
所以剛才我們強調背包是瑪莉的。背包是藍色的。背包是昨天不見的。
So we focus on the details, such as mary‘s, blue, and lost from yesterday.
讓我們來做多一點練習。你是哪裡來的？你是哪裡來的？
Let’s practice. Where are you from?
如果我要focus，我是 “哪裡” 來的？
If I am going to focus on “where” am I from,我會回答我是 “臺灣” 來的。我是臺灣來的。
I’d answer, I am from Taiwan.
我們再做一個練習。你是幾點來上課的？你是幾點來上課的？
When did you come to the lesson?
這時候我們focus在時間。所以我會說我是早上9點來上課的。
Now we are focusing on “when” so I’d say I came to the lesson at 9 in the morning.
否定句式很簡單，只要把「不」放在「是」的前面就可以。
When it comes to negation, you simply just put「不」in front of 「是」

I studied mandarin at the general education center. I didn’t study at the cram school.
